Come fight M&S in the ice fields!

Posted on 22:00 by Unknown
People are making the mistake of considering the New Order, the project I'm on, jet another griefing campaign. It's pretty easy to disprove: a miner can remove himself from the target list by stopping botting and AFK-leeching (hardly an evil demand), paying a pitiful sum of 10M and declare his support to the movement. Compare it to Burn Jita! You couldn't get immunity from Goon gank squads and trying to join them leads only to the infamous Goon recruitment scams. The New Order on the other hand welcomes miners to join, become agents and create Knight alts.

For long I've ignored the original purpose of my blog: fighting Morons and Slackers. I was too busy proving that EVE can be won that I forgot that winning it would change little in real life. "You won a video game with 40K other people, good show champ" - right? On the other hand look at the permanent page that I wrote as a personal goal. It's time to make it happen! My purpose with this project is to find these morons and slackers and force them to change into socials while collecting socials and upgrading them to competitive people (called anti-social by socials).

Let's see the morons and slackers. Obviously mining ice in EVE won't make you one. However "ice miner" and "miner" in general gained a bad name for a reason in EVE. Botting and AFK-leeching is the norm. They expect ISK without any thinking or making effort. The stereotypical ice miner just park a Mackinaw in the ice field and goes AFK, returning just to handle the full Mack. As dumb and lazy activity as it can be. Their tank is "fukk u nolifer". Also, currently the New Order is small and can cover only a few systems. It wouldn't be hard to move a bit further where we don't operate. But that would be too much thinking/effort for the M&S.

This is about to end. When they return from AFK they'll find their Mackinaw empty, bumped out of range or even worse: themselves in the clone station. They will be forced to be upgraded to norm-following socials: they will change their Bio, they will pay a fee and they will mine active. I will provide Orca boosts for free as soon as my former nullsec industrialist pilot can fly an Orca. I will also encourage them to form groups with each other, find business partners, get their own Orcas and play in groups. I want them to experience that "being with people" can be profitable and not just wasting time with idle chit-chat. They will be talking with fellow miners in the belt in local and not with distant "friends". They'll have to be on local or they risk losing their permit as the Code says: "No AFK mining allowed. All miners are expected to remain at their keyboards at all times, and are required to prove their presence by responding in local when requested by the Supreme Protector or one of his Agents."

Secondly there are the socials, full of flowers and love in their heart. No wonder they earned the title "carebear". They do what is "ethical". They are so upset by our "griefing" that they go out and try to protect the targets, people who they don't know. Also a miner who is lazy but not a moron would simply change his Bio and pay the 10M. However socials refuse to give in to "14 years old griefers". They rather try to counter-bump or counter-gank. They will fail. They will not fail because they are worse players than us, I mean lower skill point or inability to fit a ship. They will fail because they stand up for "ethics" and "moral" instead of something real. The "anti-gank movement" is not real, they have no member list, channel, ships, nothing. They are just a loose collection of whiners. They want to rally the "oppressed ones" just to find that they are AFK. They have to face that their beliefs help them nothing. They have to experience that losing ships protecting the "oppressed ones" is a waste of time because they don't even say "thank you" as they are AFK. The M&S is unworthy of saving. They will learn it the hard way. Their resistance will be broken. On the other hand they will not be broken. Every time they lose, they get the chance to join us. One day they will have enough of the futile attempt of protecting the unworthy M&S.

Finally, I'm not naive. Lot of the "Knights" can't care less about the Code or the vision of a bot/AFK-free mining. They are just here for the tears. They are competitive ones, enjoying their superiority over peers. I hope that they will see that by their actions the whole EVE changes. By this there is a chance to outgrow their state and start to aspire for more than e-peen.

- If you never tried EVE and still "enjoying" being damage #1 as tank (or healer, happened with me on battleground) in WoW, try it. You can be an effective ganker in a week. It's like WoW, except the defeated M&S won't say "lol idc" but rage over his lost pixels. If you have a trader alt, you'll never have problems affording gank ships. If you don't want to do any other activity, an extra PLEX ($15) can cover your costs for a month. Just roll a Gallente pilot, do the newbie missions to familiarize yourself with EVE and come to Chelien, our current base.
- If you tried EVE and found only "permanent Arathi basin" and left, come back and join!
- If you are in EVE looking for a change, come and make a change.

The New Order is a non-bureaucratic, casual (no time sheets) organization smashing the M&S. Ships will be destroyed! Socials will cry, break and reborn as higher beings.

PS: my "try out EVE Online" page has been changed to reflect this.

Also, the gank need a scout who scans the miner, reports tank and provides warpin. Obvious scout is obvious. However the "friendly heplfull ppl" who risk their ship defending stranger M&S gave me an idea about making a scout ship that rises cheer instead of suspicion:

The economy of the suicide ganks

Posted on 22:00 by Unknown
Update: the New Eden Ice Bot lottery has been updated to decrease the work with submitting a kill, comment on that post please.

The Knights of New Order use Catalysts for suicide ganking non-compliant miners. Various freighter-ganking groups use Taloses and Vexors. James 315 wrote a post calling these "terror weapons", things that aren't economical but good to have to strike down some hard target in a show of force.

I have to disagree. The cheaper ships are more expensive. The problem is that you need more cheaper ships as they are weaker so you need more people. Man-hours aren't free. The fact that "ganking is fun" doesn't change that, with optimized costs you can get more ganks.

Let's compare various ships on a gank that needs 3000DPS. Please note that you need an extra guy as scout. How much time a gank is? There is 15 minutes GCC, undock, warp, I doubt if you can go below 20 mins. But there is a problem: the more people, the more waiting for others. One is AFK, the other is fitting ships and also we must simply sit and wait till the group fills up. While a clockwork team might be able to gank in every 20 minutes, I seen such times only on 2-man Retreiver ganks. In my experience every man after 2+1 costs another 5 mins. With this data let's compare the various ships. Please note that half of the fittings drop and can be scooped by the scout, so the "total cost" is lower than their sum:

Now let's see the cost of a gank depending on the ISK/hour of the participants:
As you can see even in very low incomes it's better to use T2 catalyst than meta and better to use meta than T1. Even really poor newbies who joined EVE exactly for ganking are better off in the better ship. Since 15M/hour is really attainable for everyone (hint: mine ice if you don't have better ideas), we should upgrade to Vexors as soon as possible.

Now let's see the multiboxing situation, when you can actually keep the 20mins/gank schedule:
Even in this ideal case the T2 Cata is better than meta and that is better than T1 at low income. The Vexor limit elevates but for a multiboxer 40M/hour isn't that hard. The point is that even if you hope that the group improves and gets to 20mins/gank, the economically optimal move is fit your Cata as good as you can (up to T2 of course, faction fitting would be stupid).

PS: Magnetic Vortex Stabilizer I is almost as good as Magnetic Field Stabilizer II (684 vs 686 DPS on a perfect, overheating T2 Cata), so it can be fitted as T2. Please note that it has higher CPU requirement though and Neutron Blasters eat CPU fast.

New Eden ice bot lottery!

Posted on 22:00 by Unknown
Update: the lottery is cancelled due to lack of interest

I want to give more support to the New Order than ganking bots and AFK-leeches myself (flashy red when less than a week old) and seeding the market of the HQs. I've already donated ISK and could more, but you might noticed that I'm rather fan of business solutions than bureaucratic.

So I hereby announce the New Eden ice bot lottery! Every Sunday one billion ISK will be randomly distributed. To enter the lottery for the one billion prize you have to do the following:

Gank a Code violating (bot or AFK leech) miner in the ice belt. To verify that he was in the ice belt, he must have ice in the cargohold on the kill report. We don't have the numbers to cover every belt and grav site, we must focus our efforts to one zone and now that's ice. Also, Ice mining has the most bots. If he just started mining and is empty, you are out of luck. T1 barges are ineligible, an Orca or Ice-hauling freighter worth 3 tickets (if they have ice in them).

Find the kill on zkillboard.com. If it's not there, then no one loaded it up. Go and bug the guy with the killing blow to add his limited API to zkillboard.com. If it's done, the kill will be uploaded.

Copy and paste the following to an eve-mail:
Dear former owner of the following items,
[shipkill zkillboard link], [podkill zkillboard link if any]

You were terminated because you violated the New Halaima Code of Conduct http://www.minerbumping.com/p/the-code.html

The New Order is fighting against botting and AFK leeching and NOT to grief people. We are for the betterment of miners. Less bots/leeches: higher prices for active players! http://greedygoblin.blogspot.com/2013/01/why-was-i-ganked-while-mining.html

Also please look up your kill reports on the zkillboard link and see how many other Code violators were slain by us. We are mighty and will continue pursue inappropriate behavior. Please read the linked posts and think about your mining future!

Send this EVE-mail to the target and Botslayer Goblin. This is needed to verify that the letter actually reached the target.

I will collect these mails and do a Sunday extra post of the ganks of the week. People don't really read my blog on weekends so it's a good place for the kills. After that I'll make a random roll and select the winner. I'll figure out how to use the dice of Chribba.

To encourage people do the smart thing and fit for T2 or high meta (see tomorrows post), the distribution of the 1B: everyone on the kill report receives the money directly from me, 8M for every % damage they caused. The better you are, the more money. The remaining 200M is given to the guy who first sent me the kill. 100M for his extra efforts of submitting the mail and 100M with the instruction to forward it to the scout of the gank! If I'm on the kill, still do the same, I won't process it automatically. If the winner kill includes me, I won't get a share.

PS: Sugar wrote a great post how a mining op should look like. Hint: not with AFK-leeching Macks. Feel free to recommend it to miners.

Dead morons of the week

Posted on 22:00 by Unknown
Back to the unique selling point of EVE: the morons here don't walk away lolling from their failure but with a loss that can cost $1000 to replace if one chooses to buy ISK via buying PLEX. Every listed moron here is over $150 loss.
  • 7B Moros. Besides his pricetag what really makes him moron is that there was a friendly carrier so he could refit from tracking to tank+DPS. Also his rigs are just bad.
  • Shuttle with 18 PLEX in Jita.
  • 35M (about $1000) Aeon supercarrier. It belonged to TEST alliance, so did its killers. Spying with bad.
  • Why did this carrier hauled 5B cargo in (bad) ratting fit? Or why did he rat with cargo? Questions, question...
  • Same thing, this time with 4B cargo
  • 1, 2, 3 Fatal Ascension supercarriers ($1000 each) in lowsec. Away from home. Near PL. Whoring on killmails.
  • Hey, one more supercarrier in lowsec.
  • Hint: lowsec is not your sov, anyone can show up. Pandemic Legion is infamous of being "anyone".
  • Wardecced JF in highsec.
  • Another wardecced JF in highsec.
  • Yet another wardecced JF in highsec.
  • Losing a JF in lowsec isn't necessarily stupid. Losing it in a system that isn't neighboring continuous highsec on the other hand is quite stupid.
  • Someone tried to copy MasL's failure. Bad idea for 7.5B.
  • How to lose 74B ($2000) by being stupid? Instead of logging off your titan, try to place it into a small tower shield. Since it did not fit in, it was bumped and killed.
  • You rarely see Rorquals out in the belt. Especially not in lowsec. With horrible fit.
Thanks for all the fish morons, see you next week! I'm sure you won't fail me to provide yet another collection of proof of your idiotism.

Why was I ganked while mining?

Posted on 22:00 by Unknown
Dear miner,

You got here probably by a link you received in an EVE-mail from one of your gankers. You probably got a link to some kind of a code that you stopped reading after the first paragraph or, even if you finished, you rejected as "roleplaying blackmail". But luckily you are here so you aren't lost to the New Order yet. (Actually no one is as there is always a next letter after the next gank). So the letter promised economic reasoning behind the New Order. Behold!

You probably agree that bots are bad. Bots are cheat programs that allow you to gain game currency without player action. While a bot is usually dumb and can't make more than 10-15M/hour mining or 30-40M/hour missioning, let it run for 8 hours a day, 20 days a month, and you are looking for 1.5-2.5B/month from mining and 5-6B/month from missioning without doing anything. Bots devalue the effort of legitimate players, making the non-botters poor. We at the New Order decided to not suffer this and kill the bots.

- But I did not bot!
- I believe you, this is why you got the mail. No point sending mails to bots, they aren't really talkative. However, you did something that the Code define as "Bot-aspirant behavior": being AFK, mining for a long time. You might think that getting ice while watching TV is OK. But think about any game, League of Legends, World of Tanks or World of Warcraft battlegrounds where you get some points for playing. Are you happy when you have an AFK-leech on the team who just clicks every 5 minutes with a macro or manually while watching TV and get honor/experience/IP/whatever while making his teammates lose? If you are AFK-ice mining, you are that guy. You are obtaining ISK. There is no victimless crime! The money of the ice buyers is divided among the miners. If you get ISK AFK, those who are not AFK get less. The newbie giving up playing since his Retreiver can't mine enough to pay for a Mackinaw despite he mines hard? Your fault! If you are an AFK-miner, you are part of the problem.

- But mining is booooring! Do you really expect me to watch the ice cycle?
- Mining is not boring. Watching the cycle is indeed boring, but the cycle is just part of the mining process. The official game guide says that mining is a group activity. Did you mine in a group? No, being in some corp and mining alone isn't that. Did you mine together with fellow miners? It's profitable! The Orca boost can increase your yield significantly. Having a hauler in the group saves you from warping in and out to station. Having a refiner who has perfect skills and standings can completely remove the cost of refining. Having a dedicated trader can get you much better prices in the hubs. Having an ECM escort ship would allow you to safely mine in 0.5 systems. Hell, you could go wild sometimes and get to lowsec with a Venture gang and hit gas! You could make much more money while having fun with fellow players. It would be welcoming to newbies too, there would be mining gangs he could join. There are dozens of other miners in the very belt where you are. You could could cooperate with them ... if only they weren't AFK.

- But I can't do anything about them being AFK!
- Wrong! You experienced first hand that AFK makes no one immune from bumping or suicide ganking. The AFK miners and bots can be stopped! The New Order is full of volunteers who dedicate their time to clean the bots and AFK-ers. It's happening right in front of your eyes. I'm not telling you to go out and stand alone against the legion of bots like James 315 did at the beginning. I'm telling you to join a successful movement that cleaned whole ice belts of bots and AFK leeches!

- Where would you find enough people for breaking the bots?
- We found you! You are a miner, you are the perfect man for the job. You are already at the belt mining, it doesn't take much for you to keep your eyes open, try to talk with the other miners and if they are bots, dock and come back in a bumping ship. Or when there are gankers around, dock, relog to a 10 days old Catalyst alt and get rid of that bot. Instead of watching them taking away the ice from you, you could watch them explode! You could be a fearsome Dark Knight who strike down evil instead of a "carebear pubbie"!

- You can kill them in thousands and they'll just keep coming back!
- Wrong again: botting is not a "for fun" activity. It's true that no matter how many times I kill a lowsec pirate he won't stop reshipping and fighting. Similarly, if you kill a supercarrier, the pilot will not rest until he gets another one. But bots are motivated by profit. If you cause them more damage than the botting profit, he'll stop. Actually, you just have to cause them enough damage to make mission-botting more profitable and he moves to that. Or rents nullsec space and mines Arkanor which won't cut into your profit.

- CCP would stop them botting if they wanted to. CCP tolerates botting.
- Not true! CCP even have an anti-bot group and they have successfully driven off most RMT botters. They have a hard time with individual botters who run just a bot for themselves, don't spam ISK and actually play on their account, not just 24/7 bot. CCP needs hard evidence, letting 10 bots running is better than banning one legitimate player, which is a PR nightmare. We can do what CCP can't: come down on bot-aspirant behavior, just like we ganked you for AFK mining!

- Why do the Code demands me to pay 10M for "permit"? It's extortion!
- You think Catalysts are for free? Or that we pee Antimatter? 10M is a small donation for the cause. I myself donated 2B and I'm not even a miner. If you can't afford 10M, guess why? Because the bots took your profit! In this case mine ore in a Venture until you can afford, or run missions. Missions increase your standing with an NPC corporation, allowing you to get better reprocessing quota.

- Why do I need to put "I support the New Order! www.minerbumping.com" to my Bio?
The support line in your bio is an advertisement for the New Order. Botting can only stop if it becomes socially unacceptable. If being a botter will be a shame and botters can't find corps and fleets even if CCP fails to catch them. If corpmates report and awox botters. The more people support the New Order, the less social recognition will the botters get. That line in your Bio makes botters pariahs! Also, how could other Code-following miners find you to form Orca-boosted gangs with?

- How can I join?
- One of the great features of the New Order is the low bureaucracy. While there are ganker corps, you can be in any corp, even NPC. Each Knight pays for his own ship and signs up for fleets when he wants. Agents (bumpers) act totally individually. To be an agent you have to do nothing but change your Bio to announce your support and start bumping. To be a Knight (ganker), you should come to the current HQ in a gank-fit Catalyst (you can buy one in the HQ usually) and announce in local that you are here to be Baptized! Soon you'll find a Knight who tells you how to do it and then you'll be in!

- It's all nice but I don't care. I want ISK without risk and effort. I will AFK mine!
Minion of Hell, by antimatter you will be purged!
Seriously! We will gank you again. You will find that AFK mining has negative ISK/hour: you'll lose more ships than you can AFK-leech ice! Hint: go mine Veld, we can't gank in 1.0-0.9 where the veldspar is. Yet.

Business Thursday: Income from piracy!

Posted on 22:00 by Unknown
As a New Year Resolution, on every Thursday there will be no ideas or theories, just simple business ideas that you can implement. For today I have two, neither of them is completely safe, they need some pirate blood in your veins to work.

The first is the pirate version of the good old jetcan bot mining. In the original version you run bots with Hulks filling jetcans that you collect. You shouldn't do that, botting is against the EULA. It also leads you to be suicide ganked by the Knights of the New Order. Do the pirate version instead! In this version bots of other people fill jetcans that you 1 day old alt flips. Then your main, fleeted with the alt (or partner) tractor beam the cans into the Orca and fly away with the booty. I managed to "mine" with 150M/hour in Outuni Ice field due to the 100+ botters polluting that place. The flipping mechanic was changed, you can't put anything into hostile cans. But your can take from them to your own jetcan. You need to set the safety to yellow (on the flipper, not the Orca) and others can shoot at you as you are a suspect. Use a cheap frig or noobship with a zero-skill alt. If you can't fly Orca, you can use a standard industrial or a Noctis+Freighter combo.

The second pirate business needs a real pirate partner. I cooperated with the Blood Raiders, the Guristas are just as good, I can't talk about Angels, Serpentis and Sanshas but probably they are cooperative too. Besides having a rich lore and the tendency to kill TEST botters (and sometimes even honest ratters) faster than Pizza could ever do, these wonderful beings have a perk: Drug Manufacturing. No, I don't mean to manufacture them like a real pirate would, I mean the skillbook named "Drug Manufacturing". It's sold by our friends for 20M each. It's sold in Jita for 26. In the other hubs 28-30. So if you are living nearby any of these pirates or dare to venture in their space or have a good wormhole connection then go to their stations, buy their books and haul it to highsec. I made 2-3B every month while being in TEST doing this. I collected the books with a covops frig and hauled to K6 myself where the TEST JF services got these to Amarr or Jita for mere 5% cost (Hi, Dovi and others!) where I could sell them for 25-50% profit. Since I'm no longer in TEST, the business is all yours!

In yesterday's post I replaced one table with a chart and recognized the importance that there are not just "ganked PvE-ers and PvP-ers", but there are "average" people in the middle. Using this the outcome became much less offensive to WH PvP-ers. While the ruthless hunters are a minority, the average people, who are not "carebears" are in large supply in WHs. Also removed the last table since the CCP data was for accounts and mine for pilots so same-account pilots compromised it.

Surprising statistics: where are the PvP-ers?

Posted on 22:00 by Unknown
I wrote a post to debunk the commonly recited claim that WH people are both extremely rich and that WH space is extremely dangerous. I used regional statistics from killboards to prove that WH ship losses aren't that expensive. They claimed that because they go to PvP in null (because they are so awesome that no one attacks them in their WHs). So I went to look for more data. Someone who wished to remain anonymous downloaded me 2868915 API verified kills from EVE-kill.net from 2012 (until Dec. 20.) for a nice sum of ISK. Using this data I could track pilots and not places.

I identified 197164 individual pilots who had at least one 50M loss in 2012. I discarded the rest as cyno/scout alts, lost newbies and such. I mean a single 50M+ loss isn't too much to ask if you PvP. Then I classified these pilots into "Highsec", "Lowsec", "Nullsec" and "WH" pilots based on which zone they had the most losses. It's pretty straightforward that you defend your home with more expensive ships than you roam with. Some people might place himself in another group, for example nullsec JF pilots who has most losses in low and highsec, but they are wrong. Such hauler couldn't exist without low- and highsec to haul to. His whole existence is bound to low- and highsec. With the above I found the following amount of pilots who lost ships in PvP
  • 18231 WH pilots
  • 87353 Nullsec pilots
  • 39806 Highsec pilots
  • 51774 Lowsec pilots
After that I collected all the losses of these pilots and calculated the average loss/pilot. The chart below shows that, with different colors for the different regions. You can see that while theoretically one can be a WH pilot with only 25.1% losses in WH (and 24.9 in low, high, null), pilots of all zones have vast majority of their losses in their home regions.
As you can see, the roaming (and hauling) losses of WH people outside WHs are only 18% of their total losses. For the record: 84% of the total WH kills are done by "WH people" so even if I misidentified some WH-ers because of a highsec hauler loss, their contribution to WH PvP is minimal.

As next move I split the people into 4 groups depending how the number of their kills relate to the average of their own zone. The averages themselves are 7.0 losses/year for WH, 14.6 for Null, 7.1 for High and 11.3 for Lowsec people. Now let's see how the lost ISK is distributed between the four groups:
Highsec ISK losses are dominated by those who lost less than half the average amount of ships. They are ganked PvE players and haulers who lost just a few expensive ships. Highsec and lowsec are dominated by lot of smaller losses of active PvP-ers. WH on the other hand seems to be pretty rounded, most losses were of "average" people and the "carebears" and "PvP-ers" are both a minority. Why the amount of losses is important?
As you can see, for each type of pilots the average loss values are the highest among those who lost only a few ships, most obviously they got their pimped PvE ship ganked. Please note that it's the value of one loss, the yearly total loss increases with PvP activity (obviously). For this reason the WH-ers lose less money on PvP (first figure) despite their single losses are more expensive.

Now let's look at the loss value pattern! The chart below shows the percentages of various value ranges in the total losses (1x10B is the same as 100x100m).
Similar to the previous: the low and nullsec are dominated by smaller losses of the busy PvP population, the medium losses dominate WH and highsec has the largest part of large losses. Freighter ganks beat even the supercapital losses of nullsec!

Finally let's look at how dangerous systems are! While the feeling of danger is subjective, the real danger is very objective: the chance of loss. The chart below show how much ISK was destroyed in a year in an average solar system:
Now look at that! Not only the mighty C6s were beaten by highsec systems but the lowsec came out on top by large! Also, C5 and C6 is dominated by expensive losses and we already established it to be a sign of PvE. If we check the number of kills for trivial (0-30M) and non-trivial ship losses in the various system classes, we get the same, lowsec is the most dangerous place to be, while WHs see much less kills than highsec due to their low population.
PS: If you can get a more complete database and send me, I gladly analyze that too!

The reason why I'm at -4 sec status after only 2 days.
